Pilot Project Empowering Coffee Region Youth

We are proud to announce the success of the "Educational Opportunities for Youth in Coffee Growing Regions" pilot project, a collaborative initiative with the COHONDUCAFÉ Foundation and Royal Cup. This impactful program, implemented in the community of Subirana, Yoro, Honduras, has made significant strides in improving education for youth in coffee-growing areas.

Addressing Critical Challenges

The Yoro region, known for its rich natural resources and coffee production, faces significant socio-economic challenges. Many families in the area live on less than two hectares of farmland and struggle with limited educational opportunities. This environment has often led to high rates of youth migration, impacting the coffee industry and community stability.

In response, the project aimed to provide tailored educational support to students in grades seven through nine, strengthening their academic performance and equipping them with skills to contribute to their communities.

Key Achievements

Over the course of the project, the following milestones were achieved:

• Direct Support for 91 Students: Tailored tutoring programs in Spanish and mathematics were offered to students at the José Cecilio del Valle Education Center.
• Notable Academic Improvements: Participants achieved an average improvement of 56% in Spanish and 35% in mathematics, highlighting the program’s effectiveness in addressing core academic challenges.
• Inclusive Educational Approach: Special efforts were made to include students from the Tolupán ethnic group, ensuring cultural sensitivity and reducing barriers to education.

The pilot project has proven that targeted educational initiatives can transform lives and communities. By enhancing the academic skills of young students, the program has fostered hope and opportunity in a vital coffee-growing region.
